♀️ Sirimavo Bandaranaike made history in 1960 by becoming the first woman in the world to hold the office of prime minister, becoming the head of government of Ceylon, which became Sri Lanka in 1972.
📅 She served three separate terms as prime minister: 1960-1965, 1970-1977 and finally 1984-2000.
🥇 She became a national leader well before any woman in the West, almost two decades before Margaret Thatcher became British prime minister in 1979.
