What happened to the unusable rubble?

🧱 After WWII, Germany's cities were left in ruins. The unusable rubble was cleared by "Trümmerfrauen" (rubble women) and other workers.

⛰️ This debris was moved to the outskirts of cities, forming artificial hills known as "Schuttberge" or rubble mountains.

👹 Berlin's Teufelsberg ("Devil's Mountain") is one of the most famous rubble mountains, made from the remains of about 400,000 buildings and later used as a U.S. listening station during the Cold War.

🗺️ Today, Teufelsberg is a popular spot, known for its graffiti, panoramic views, and remnants of the listening station, symbolising both destruction and resilience.
